O’Neill Industrial has presented a scholarship to Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) student Joachim Clohessy at this year’s TUS Community & Industry Scholarship Awards.
Joachim, a final year student in Electronic Engineering & Computer Systems at TUS, has been in receipt of the bursary since Christmas. The scholarship recognises both academic achievement and personal determination with the purpose of supporting students as they progress through their studies.
Speaking at the event, Michael O’Neill of O’Neill Industrial said he was particularly struck by Joachim’s character and outlook:
“I was very impressed by Joachim during the scholarship interviews. He spoke about the significant challenges he has faced in life, without any sense of being a victim. He has always believed that continuing his education was the right path to achieving the life he wants for himself, his family, and making a positive contribution to the world.”
The award was presented as part of the annual TUS Community & Industry Scholarship Awards, which celebrate collaboration between industry partners and the university in supporting the next generation of talent. Joachim is a past student of St Munchins College.
Joachim said, “Receiving this scholarship from O’Neill Industrial has meant a great deal to me. I came into this final year with a clear target – to graduate at a standard I could genuinely be proud of, not just a standard that qualified me.
Engineering was never just a course to me. It was the first thing I found that showed me what it felt like to build something real, and I wanted to keep building from there. What O’Neill Industrial has given me is something I had never really seen modelled growing up – someone who had built something deciding to reach back and invest in someone still on the way up. That decision removed the bottleneck between my ambition and my ability to pursue it, and gave me the space to invest in myself fully.
I will continue to go on and create real value in my field. I’m deeply grateful to O’Neill Industrial for supporting me and enabling me to pursue that fully in my studies. I plan to reflect that same investment in people when I reach that position myself,” he continued.
O’Neill Industrial, based in Limerick, has a long-standing track record of supporting Irish industry through the supply of compressed air and pneumatic equipment, and is committed to investing in future talent through initiatives such as the TUS scholarship programme.
