Delivering State-of-the-Art Compressed Air System for Leading Medtech Facility

In 2024, a global leader in the Medtech Sector completed construction of a new manufacturing facility in the South East of Ireland. This advanced plant supports growing global demand for innovative care products and serves as a hub for engineering excellence, quality assurance, and precision medical device manufacturing.

To support the facility’s rigorous manufacturing standards, McElroy Associates provided full engineering consultancy services, including the design of the compressed air generation and distribution system. Known for their expertise in project management and engineering for high-tech industrial builds, McElroy Associates ensured the delivery of a system tailored to the critical needs of pharmaceutical production.

Dornan Group, specialists in mechanical installation for complex life sciences environments, were selected to manage the mechanical scope of the project. Their proven ability to deliver technical installations to the highest standards of quality and safety made them an ideal partner for this facility.

O’Neill Industrial, a trusted distributor of Ingersoll Rand equipment in Ireland for over 50 years, partnered with Dornan to supply and install a fully integrated compressed air system. The system includes:

  • Three Ingersoll Rand E-Series air-cooled compressors
  • Two twin tower desiccant heat regenerative air dryers
  • A full filtration system and air receivers, delivering ISO 8573.1:2010 Class 1.2.1 air quality
  • A Helix™ Master Control System for real-time performance monitoring and diagnostics

To complete the solution, O’Neill Industrial also provided an Ingersoll Rand Simplair compressed air piping system and Donaldson point-of-use sterile filtration, ensuring the delivery of ultra-clean, sterile air to meet the plant’s demanding purity requirements.

Iain Armour from McElroy Associates said: “Our focus is always on delivering robust, future-ready solutions. Compressed air is a critical utility in pharmaceutical manufacturing. This system not only meets the stringent air quality and reliability standards of our client but also enhances energy efficiency and system transparency through continuous remote monitoring.”

Austin O’Neill, O’Neill Industrial, noted:  “The critical nature of utility functions such as the compressed air system means services must be installed to meet rigorous quality standards. We’re proud to support the success of this cutting-edge facility with a compressed air system that ensures reliability, energy efficiency, and the highest levels of air purity—key requirements in critical manufacturing environments.”
